There are a host of unusual, uncommon and different uses for curtain poles: -
Workshop organizer Fasten a short length of curtain pole to shallow mounts on your workshop wall. Slip screwdrivers, chisels and other tools with handles between the rod and the wall, blades downwards. Be sure to cover the ends of the chisels with plastic caps first.
Garden stakes Use an old curtain pole to support vegetable plants in the garden.
Drying rack Use
three or four curtain poles to make your own adjustable laundry dryer;
attach them at each end to a cross piece of wood and use a pulley to raise
and lower the drying rack as required.
